A classical batsman with an outstanding ability to play shots, Kallicharran is one of the greatest batsmen to have taken guard for the West Indies in its Golden Era. He was a sight to behold when in full bloom – a fighter, a leader who refuses to give in when on the cricket field and in his life.

Alvin’s reflections…

You could say

from a very young age, the diversity of my country was grooming me to be genuinely “colour blind.” When I played cricket, the only color I ever saw, was the colour of the ball.

I remember

walking into the community center and seeing pictures of great cricketers on the walls. I remember standing next to them and putting myself in their shoes and imagining being one of them. I could see myself standing in their place and playing the shots they were playing or bowling or fielding the way they were

On the surface,

many people would look at my upbringing, the hardships and apparent lack of wealth as a handicap. Upon reflecting, I don't believe I would have amounted to much of a cricketer if I wasn't put through these conditions and raised the way I was
